Week 6Objective: Students will learn that being accountable to other Christians cultivates spiritual growth, and they will choose to begin a personal accountability relationship with another believer.
Key Thought: On your own, you get stuck in the zone, but accountability is your “out-ability.” Lesson Summary: What comes to your mind when you hear the word, accountability? If you’re like most people, it can cause a negative reaction. To be honest, we tend to like the idea of holding another person accountable, but often become uncomfortable when someone tries to hold us accountable. Every one of us needs accountability in order to stay focused. Whether it is a personal training goal, weight-loss goal, or sales goal, accountability is necessary to meet those goals! This coming week, your student will be challenged to step out of their spiritual comfort zone by committing to an accountability partnership, for the purpose of experiencing mutual spiritual growth. Our goal is to help the students see accountability as a catalyst to help deepen their personal relationship and walk with the Lord. They will be asked to think of another person (of the same gender) with whom they would be accountable and then to meet with them each week. Parent Challenge: Accountability is not just for your student; everyone needs it, even busy parents. One day you will stand before the Lord and give an account for your life (2 Corinthians 5:9-10). Knowing this should motivate you to seek out someone with whom you can be accountable. Let your student know that you are going to commit to getting an accountability partner as well. Don’t get stuck in your own spiritual comfort zone. Here is a short YouVersion devotional to share with your child.
